  1. I love'd this talk. I was there when he gave it. These are the parts I like. "Don’t demean your worth or denigrate your contribution. Above all, don’t abandon your role in the chorus. Why? Because you are unique; you are irreplaceable. The loss of even one voice diminishes every other singer in this great mortal choir of ours, including the loss of those who feel they are on the margins of society or the margins of the Church." We all are needed to be part of the Choir.
I also liked this part. “Come as you are,” a loving Father says to each of us, but He adds, “Don’t plan to stay as you are.” We smile and remember that God is determined to make of us more than we thought we could be.' Christ wants us all but he wants to help make us better each day if we let him. We need to listen to the music of the gospel and not the music of the world."
Thanks Mariah for letting us think about this for a week.

  2. I also liked the part mom picked out:

“Come as you are,” a loving Father says to each of us, but He adds, “Don’t plan to stay as you are.” We smile and remember that God is determined to make of us more than we thought we could be."

God is determined and provides many opportunities for us to become better than we are or think we could be, but we often fight against it or choose not to take the opportunities He provides. This reminds me of Al- he actually has a good singing voice, but has never worked on that talent he has. Instead he tries to make jokes and poke fun at people who do sing well. Whenever he sings at church he barely moves his lips and no sound escapes his mouth.

I think this is a lot like us as God's children in some ways. We don't take advantage of the experiences He provides for us to grow and improve our "singing voice" and we sometimes judge, make fun of, or even hinder/hamper the efforts of others trying to "sing."

Riah is a good example of someone who is always singing in the Choir. May we all live the gospel and "sing" it like it's our favorite song!

  3. Earlier this week a lady asked the question, how does Elder Holland keep doing it? His messages are always classic. It seems this message based on words in our hymns really had impact with many people. Music is an emotional language. The Spirit also speaks through our emotions. I've often been impressed with some of the lines in our music. This is one....There is sunshine in my soul today. That plus the words....Jesus listening can hear the songs I cannot sing...rings true with me. My musical ability is best left in the closet. Fortunately I was blessed with some amazing children than can sing in word and sign so beautifully. Music sets a tone and invites the Spirit. Elder Holland reminded us that the melodies and verses of our hymns can teach us much about the Savior and the gospel.

  4. This talk was very good and I loved it so much ! We all know that I have a talent to sing and Heavenly Father gave me that talents to sing and when I was at church today I especially loved the song that we sang today and it was called whenever I hear the song of a bird and I loved the words of that song because it makes me feel that my Heavenly Father loves me very much ! I hope you took time to ponder on this talk and apply to our life's and we are all given talents too !
