James 1: 5-6 (Riah)

  1. Who do I know that does not lack wisdom? For sure I do! We all know and associate this scripture with Joseph Smith and his experience, but each of us in our lack of wisdom can approach God in seeking for whatever wisdom we need. There have been so many times in my life where I was facing a personal crisis or decision and knew I was at my limit. Thankfully on most occasions a loving Heavenly Father heard and answered my prayer.

I would like to share with you why only "most." It has to do with the words of this scripture....ask in faith, nothing wavering. Those times I was left to my own wisdom and failed was because my faith was weak. I wavered in my commitment. I asked for help not committing to what more I needed to do to receive Gods help. Most times when we are at whit's end God will save us, but he expects us to give just a little bit more. When we do we can have our own vision and see just what God will help us do.

So keep asking for help and wisdom, but ask in faith, nothing wavering.

  2. sorry I posted this late. I wrote a reply for this once today, but it didn't post, so let me see if I can remember what I said... (technical difficulties seem to the story of my life right now!)

So the part that stuck out to me this week was "nothing waivering". Our faith can't waiver, or we really won't have any at all. If we have faith, we don't waiver, we have courage, we stay the course, we hang on when things get tough.

If you study waves in science- an object sitting on the ocean stays stationary in the waves- it just bobs up and down. The wind and the current is what actually causes the object to move and change location.

In our lives, our faith is like that. We might bob up and down during our trials, but if we have faith we stay with the gospel. We may even choose to anchor ourselves to it. As the storm gathers in the last days approaching the Savior's coming- we can't let our selves be blown with the winds of change, or go with the flow of the worldly current or we will find ourselves way off course. I guess in a way, our faith becomes the thing that anchors us.

  3. The reason why I picked this scripture for this scripture is Propher Joseph Smith used this scripture a lot when he was looking for a church to join and I like the part where he asked us any of us lack wisdom in his life he prayed to God and he had to excerised his faith and he received a answered to his prayers. Have a great day and those are my words of wisdom today too !

  4. Whenever I think of this scripture I think young Joseph. I think of his question. "My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join” (Joseph Smith--History 1:10, 18).

Joseph’s questions focused not just on what he needed to know but also on what was to be done! His prayer was not simply, “Which church is right?” His question was, “Which church should I join?” Joseph went to the grove to ask in faith, and he was determined to act.
