Ether 4:12 (Melissa)

  1. All you kids are amazing. Each week you pick scriptures that challenge me to ponder a bit deeper than ever before regarding the scriptures you pick. This one maybe was even a little more challenging.

I most often have always got caught in the first phrase and the words "persuadeth men to do good." However, I think Moroni had more in mind as I thought about the context of his words. If we don't believe the words we would not even believe Christ or the Father. When Moroni was writing these words all those who had actually heard the Savior were long dead. All they had was the written record. And most just did not believe the "words."

Are we just a little like that today? We get the written words of the prophets and church leaders every six months. Sometimes we even get the opportunity to listen to some of these leaders face-to-face. But if the words of General Conference were not enough to prick our souls then likely the words spoken in our presence will not have lasting effect either. I need to do better at believing His words so that I demonstrate I really believe Him.

  2. I was thinking along the lines of Dad this week in regards to this scripture belief vs faith. Hope is associated with both of those words, but you have to believe- then when you act on that belief, that is where the faith comes in.

I our world today, people try to get us to believe anything, which results in most people believing in nothing. Too much crap to sift through.

Luckily we have the gospel and the words of Moroni to remind us that there is always one thing we can hang on to and believe in- and that's our Savior. Nothing that happens in the world, no matter how bad things get can diminish the facts of the Atonement and the blessings and opportunities it affords us all. We just have to constantly remind ourselves of that and then also remember to live like we believe.

  3. As I thought about this scripture it seemed to me like it is comparing the difference to the spirit of light and truth; "that is given to all men". As compared to the gift of the Holy Ghost. There is good through out the world. There is many good people in many religions do many good things. However that is not the same as the gift of the holy ghost. There is only one way to get it and it is one of the 3 pillars of the church. Things are true but only Heavenly Fathers plan can gives us truth and eternity.

  5. God created all things and called them good. We are all creations and come into this world with the light of Christ. It is our choice to follow him and continue on in the light or to choose to follow Satan and choose darkness instead of light.
