  1. I like this scripture a lot and we all need to have more faith in our life's and faith is the first principle of the gospel and we all need to have more faith in ourselves too. I like that we need to have faith in our Savior Jesus Christ too. Those are my comments on this scripture for this week too ! Have a great Sunday tomorrow !

  2. Young minds are firm and do out their trust in God continually...until the world gets to them and starts messing with their perception and their faith. That's why the role of a parent is critical. Heavenly Father values his role as a parent so much that he gave us His most prized possession- His Son, our Savior.

I know I've learned a lot as I've become a parent about how important it is to encourage and nourish my children to hold on to their faith and set the world aside. It's not an easy thing to do, but if they learn to put their trust in God continually from their youth, that is what will carry them through their life.

Luckily we had parents that did that for us. Each of us has had our own struggles and trials, but we've never lost our faith.

  3. Do Faith and Age have a correlation? My initial thought is yes, but then I think, it should not be. Christ suggested that we must become as a little child. Is that because the faith of a little child is pure and simple; no conditions.

After getting by that thought this scripture causes me to reflect on these young men Helaman is writing about. These were men that were strong physically and spiritually; we have pondered their spiritual strength previously. But now Helaman tells us their minds were firm. I think he is suggesting this as a positive trait, not that they were close-minded.

So when you put this all together Helaman gives us why these traits were important and the end result--they put their trust in God continually. Not just on Sunday, not just in the temple, not when life is easy, but continually! That is where I need to be. That is where I pray our young family will all be.

  4. With Ashlee being pregnant and miserable, I have had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with my girls alone. I have been thinking a lot about what/how I raise them. Todd D. Christofferson spoke about this in general conference a few years ago that I came across. He is talking directly about the scripture dad chose and touched me deeply.

"Here we find a standard for what should happen in our homes and in the Church. Our teaching should draw upon our own faith and focus first and foremost on instilling faith in God in the rising generation. We must declare the essential need to keep the commandments of God and to walk uprightly before Him in soberness, or in other words, with reverence. Each must be persuaded that service and sacrifice for the well-being and happiness of others are far superior to making one’s own comfort and possessions the highest priority.
This requires more than an occasional reference to one or another gospel principle. There must be constantteaching, mostly by example. President Henry B. Eyring expressed the vision we strive to attain:
“The pure gospel of Jesus Christ must go down into the hearts of [our children] by the power of the Holy Ghost. It will not be enough for them to have had a spiritual witness of the truth and to want good things later. It will not be enough for them to hope for some future cleansing and strengthening. Our aim must be for them to become truly converted to the restored gospel of Jesus Christ while they are with us. …"

  5. As I look back in the scriptures Heavenly Father chose many prophets while in their youth. He chose David as a boy to fight Galiath. He chose Daniel because he and his companions chose to refuse to eat the fancy food of the king. He later used Danial to interpret the dream of the king. He chose a young boy named Joseph Smith at the age of 14 to be the first Prophet in this dispensation. It was because they listened to what their parents parents taught them and stayed true to those principles. Because of their faith and courage they changed history. The lord trusts young men, 12 years of age to pass the sacrament, and 16 year olds to administer it. In other churches that is not the case. It is only priests who have been schooled for many years are able to administer the sacrament. Heavenly Father chooses the weak things of the world, 19-10 year old missionaries to teach his gospel.
As we have worked with the missionaries and the cadets we can see they are valiant in keeping their covenants. They are firm in the faith and they put their trust in God continually. We have no fear of the future of the church or the military. It will be in good hands as these young men and women grow up to take over leadership.
We are all young in an eternal sense. We need to keep putting our trust in God continually and have faith in him and his son. That is a life quest while we are here on earth
