John 3:16-17 (Mariah)

  1. I am thankful that Riah picked this Eater themed scripture! We were studying Isaiah in Seminary this week and I realized a few things about the last week of the Savior's life that I hadn't understood before.

I liked how this picture of the scripture added the words "He gave" and "He came" because it called my attention to the 2 purposes of the Savior's existence. He gave his life for each of us and he came to share Heavenly Father's love so that hopefully we can return to his presence.

Al learned about a new social movement this week called "because I said I would." Its about keeping promises. There is a neat background story behind it (see the TED talk at
If you think about the Atonement in perspective of a promise- Christ did that for each of us, because he said he would. He didn't expect anything in return. If we use those same words when speaking to Heavenly Father, or the Savior- we need to stop and think about things we might have promised the Lord that we would do. Are we doing them? (because we said we would- but are we following through?) Made me realize that I need to take the sacrament and temple covenants a bit more seriously.

Last night at the women's broadcast they showcased the need that the world has for us to nurture and build the kingdom, carrying on the work the Savior started as we become His hands. I think if we truly appreciate the gift of the Atonement, then we do everything possible in our power to show that by our actions and words- just as the Savior did for each of us.

One other thought I just had- The Atonement isn't really over yet. After our life on earth is done we will each be judged. Christ will stand there with each of us pleading our case to the father as another act of love. Even then, he won't leave us alone.

  3. For God so loved me! That is the message of this scripture, the Atonement, and the whole plan of salvation. Sure he loves you and others too, but the real message is personal. It is me He loves. What I do with that love is totally up to me. He will never withdraw it or take it back or say "oops, sorry. I only love those that are good all the time."

For the past year I have been very impressed with the actors in the temple videos that portray Christ. Next time you attend the temple pay attention to Christ's face, his eyes, and his non-verbal expressions to His Father and to Michael. He too really loves us and knew exactly what he was offering to do. His love was just an extension of the Father's love.

How are we doing acknowledging and trying to repay such great love?

    Happy Atonement Day!

  4. When ever I read this scripture I now think of the "Living Christ" document that was released in 2000 by the Apostles. It is simple, bold and powerful. It speaks the truth. I humbly suggest that you take the to re-read it today. I leave you with some of the last paragraph: "We bear testimony, as His duly ordained Apostles--that Jesus is the Living Christ, the immortal Son of God. He is the great King Immanuel, who stands today on the right hand of His Father. He is the light, the life, and the hope of the world. His way is the path that leads to happiness in this life and eternal life in the world to come. God be thanked for the matchless gift of His divine Son."

  5. As I was thinking about this scripture I thought as Heavenly mother. Could there be any other way to accomplish the atonement without killing one of our precious children. Yet as I thought about the scripture that says "there is no other name under heaven that can save us." Only In and Through the Atonement of Jesus Christ can we be saved. He wasn't just a good choice. He was our only choice. It was the only way that justice could be fulfilled and then Mercy and be shown unto us. There is no other way that the price for sin could be paid unless it was an ultimate and eternal sacrifice. I contemplated that as I watched the temple film (the one with the golden stairs) where Heavenly Father is telling Adam "We will provide a Savior for them". As he says these words he looks lovingly and knowingly at the Savior and the Savior looks back and him knowing he will be that sacrifice. They both knew as did we that there was NO OTHER WAY. We know that no unclean thing can enter into the kingdom of Heaven. No other plan would work. Man could not do it himself. Only by the Savior taking upon himself our sins and dying for us could we be forgiven for our mistakes and then progress back to Heavenly Father.

How grateful I am for my Savior who has opened the way for me to repent, and to be able to live again after death with my family. He has not left us alone. He has established this church with his name so that we can progress. The Savior never thought about him. It always has been and still us about us.

  6. Happy Easter to all and as I reflected on this scripture this past week I know God so loved the world for everyone including me and this is a powerful scripture that talks about our Savior Jesus Christ too and he died for all of us. I am so glad that we have a Savior Jesus Christ that can help me in my life too. I am also grateful that we have the atonement in our lifes and we can share it with others too. Those are my thoughts this week ! Happy Easter to all today ! From mariah
