  1. Al wanted to participate and chose this scripture for me to post this week.

Here is a great talk from Elder Holland that goes along with it:

  2. Christ and Adam created this world under the direction of the Father. As you look around the world not one dog, or flower or even clouds are exactly alike. How wonderful that God wanted each of us to be different and unique. It is amazing how the body can heal itself. I was a begger as I asked Heavenly Father to help me with my leg. It has almost been 3 months and I am almost back to normal. It is indeed amazing. The Priesthood blessings help, but God created our bodies to heal themselves. How often to we take time each day to just enjoy this beautiful world and give credit to God for creating it for us. We need to take time to be grateful for all the blessings that Heavenly Father has given us. We need to have an attitude of Gratitude.

    1. I can relate to how you're feeling about being healed from when I broke my hip in the car accident. It makes me more grateful for everything!

  3. I thought it was interesting that Al recommended this scripture, because recently I've been wondering if he has been remembering this concept as he has struggled with church issues (wanting to attend, how things are handled, actions of ward members) in contrast to how blessed he has been with his job (finding one in the industry he loves, recently getting a raise and a bonus). When he was desperately seeking to find a new job- he walked very closely with the Lord and was grateful for every blessing, but now he is greatly blessed and doesn't feel the need to walk as closely. Maybe him choosing this scripture is an indication his heart is softening a bit. This has certainly helped me to understand the Book of Mormon and how the Nephites could have ended up so far from the Lord after all they had been blessed with.

Having a spirit of humility is an important component of gratitude. We need to realize that although we work hard for our successes, in the end we still owe the credit to the Lord because he is the one who provides the blessings. We need to seek His approval and not be concerned about the approval of man.

On a side note- I had a different perspective with this scripture this week. I had the chance last Saturday to take Bree and Natalia to do some names mom and dad found for baptisms at the temple. Then on Thursday I went with my friend and we did the initiatory work for those same names. I don't think I've ever been to the temple twice in one week before. I did have more time and flexibility this week because school was out, but it was also something more. When we do work for people in our own family tree, it makes you more obligated, motivated, and engaged in the process. You feel a sense of urgency, probably from the other side, because they are patiently waiting, hoping, maybe even BEGGING us to find the time and get their work done. One name had all the ordinances done except for the baptism and confirmation in 1909, and had been waiting until we went last week to complete it. Can you imagine having to wait for 107 years!?!

I think we should all ask Mom and Dad for a few names to work on in the temple, not only to support them in their calling, but to help those on the other side who are waiting and begging us to help them obtain their ordinances and blessings.

    1. Thanks Jen, We will have hundreds. It makes me grateful that I found them but sad that I can't get their work done faster. I hope others take us up on doing some names.

  4. I first became aware of this scripture as a young missionary in Taiwan. At that time the country was very poor and there were lots of beggars. As missionaries we had very little money to share with them and few wanted to hear our message. In many ways I felt more like a beggar because I spoke little of their language and really had very little in the way of material possessions. I found myself "begging" daily with the Lord to help me survive. That experience and many since have taught me to be cautious of becoming an unworthy beggar. I've come to believe that a loving Heavenly Father stands ready to bless the "beggar" that has done all in his power to relieve his own suffering and is still in need. It is really easy to beg, but not as easy to work to the best of our ability.

This is a hard concept and scripture because we walk a fine line at times begging when we should be working. Other times we get proud and forget to call on the Lord. I sure needed this week to ponder this one.

  6. I have really felt like a beggar these past few weeks as I have struggled and spend a lot of time learning this Primary President stuff. I truly feel like a beggar seeking the Lord's wisdom and help to move forward. I guess my begging paid of and God answered my prayers tonight as we instructed the teachers tonight for primary. I couldn't have succeeded without His hand. Times like these I feel grateful that the Lord allows us to plead for his help.

Also another thought notice the scripture didn't say "are we all nit whiners." What is the difference btwn whining and begging. Perhaps it is the ability to act on what we have been given. Whine or beg...it's up to you to decide what you are going to make from the experiences that humble us.
