"Principles and Promises" -Thomas S. Monson (Jen)

As you read this talk- think of the promises you've experienced in your life because of our testimony of the principles of the gospel.

  1. The lesson I got for myself from this talk and the story President Monson shared about the soldier calling upon the Lord to bless him with strength because he had lived the Word of Wisdom is that we have the right to ask the Lord to bless us when we need it if we have been living the gospel as we should. We don't have that right or privilege if we haven't been fully committed to living the commandments. That really made me think about how committed to the gospel I am, and if I'm living worthily enough to get the blessings I want most. I can always do better, but I think I'm doing ok!

  2. I really liked the story of the sailor. Made me think of the song they play with the temple video. Strength Beyond My Own. "I can feel the power of heaven as I stand on holy ground." Perhaps we could also parallel the story to the song with a little change in the words. "I can feel the power of heaven as my body is holy" Then we receive strength beyond our own. Jen, I feel like the Lord is blessing with you amazing strength to do all the things you do ans you consecrate your efforts to Him.

  3. I know that one thing we are taught as missionaries is to always promise blessings as we teach. Everything that we are commanded to do has a blessing attached to it.
Just as the Navy sailor was blessed with added strength to climb up that rope. I have been given added strength to come back physically from injuries, and illness because I had obeyed the word of wisdom.
Our family has had may mission miracles because we obeyed the principle to serve missions. We got them when you kids served, and we got them when we served. As we start our new mission we are sure we continue to see more miracles.
